COMPONENT 3 - Digipak Research & Development

Here consists of the research and development for our entire digipak. Me and Sam did research together:

 DIGIPAK RESEARCH

The style Sam decided on for the digipak would be a polaroid, with a picture of a sunset and a silhouette of a couple doing a gesture. We compiled a few ideas from the internet to help us visualize the final product.

We continued our research and decided that the pictures above would be the front cover of the digipak, the overall idea would be a polaroid with nostalgic feeling. The inside of the digipak would most likely not include any more pictures, instead, it would include more writings, which is very aesthetic.

The inner left side of the digipak would be more simple and plain, with a white background and a quote, with two signatures below written using a marker, this would be the signatures of the two actors from our music video which would play as the "lovers" and indicate a special connection between them. The inner right side of the digipak, not including the CD, would be a bunch of lyrics scattered. The images above are the inspiration for this.

DIGIPAK DEVELOPMENT

On week 6 we decided to change our song from ITS YOU by MAX ft. Keshi, to Memories by Maroon 5. This caused the group to change some parts to our plan, for the digipak, me and Sam decided to keep the initial idea of the digipak, though with some changes. Few changes were the theme of the song, which resulted in the change of our main subject, from 2 people to 1 person, and since the theme changed from love to friendship, the person would have a more depressing tone, representing loneliness, since our song is about nostalgic friendship.

Artist Name - The

Song List:
  • Memories
  • Forever Friends
  • This Side of Happiness
  • Where'd All This Time Go
  • Pessimist
  • The Bust Stop
  • Teenage, Dream Age
  • Waving Goodbye
  • Walking Backwards
  • Reminiscing
The first concept of our digipak cover was a polaroid picture of the actor we will choose for the lonely scenes, the picture would have a darker tone, with an extreme long shot to depict loneliness and isolation, the bottom part of the polaroid pic would have a date and initials as well, to indicate the past, further representing nostalgia. My inspiration for this idea is Keshi's album cover for his song "Right Here".

We drew some ideas for our digipak, me and Sam has agreed on what the digipak would look like, we just need to bring it to life.

Here are the results.

On week 6 we started our first attempt in creating the digipak front cover. We used a picture of Sam taken by Andrew in school.

We used this picture for our idea, which would be in polaroid, similiar to Taylor Swift 1989. Though me and sam used photoshop to edit and this is how it turned out:

We weren't quite happy with the results, because the lighting, the color scheme as well as the expressions doesn't fit, and so we will redo the editing, along with the rest of the digipak.

These are our development on our final digipak inside covers.

Sam decided that having a real handwriting would be better and so I wrote the lyrics on a piece of paper and then Sam did the editing, which turned out to be our final design.
