COMPONENT 1 - Contents Page Research & Development

This post consists of my research and development for my magazine contents page:

CONTENTS PAGE RESEARCH

I've done a bit of research on the contents page of basketball magazines, most of them contain pictures of the players looking towards the viewer. I would like to do something similar to this picture show above, subject in the middle with plain background, and contents on the side. The hands going out of the black box is what makes it interesting to me, so if possible I would like to do the same.

Here was one of the contents page I've taken from my school library. My idea is different from this one, though I've taken notes of the fonts and color usage.

This was another contents page that I've taken, this one looks better in my opinion, the page numbers are seen better, some highlights were the pictures and the subheadings, I'll definitely be using this idea.

CONTENTS PAGE DEVELOPMENT

Here is the design for my content page, I decided to have a few pictures showing some of the contents within the magazine. I made 12 topics for my magazine with a short description beneath them, keeping the red color theme I separated the page with lines colored in red.

After some feedback from my teacher, I realized that the word "CONTENTS" was too formal and wouldn't fit well into my magazine, and so I put a more casual word that would fit into the genre of the magazine, "What's up?". I also changed the color and added a rectangular background to the topics.

I tried to mess around with the colors and I then decided that it doesn't look very clean, it's very uneven and random at some locations. So I scrapped the Idea.

Instead, I just decided to color the words with red as it looked cleaner while maintaining the theme I wanted. Here I also added a spot for the reference at the bottom left of the page.
